Snowed In on the Solstice

The West:

A potent windy storm will be barreling into the Pacific Northwest Sunday.

With very cold air in place, much of the precipitation will be snow.

Significant snow will fall across western Washington, including Seattle, where 5 to 10 inches are likely. As milder air tries to come inland, southwest Washington will see a switchover to sleet and freezing rain. Easterly winds could be strong and damaging in the foothills, especially during the morning.

On Sunday, slowly rising snow levels will change the snow to rain at the lowest levels. Strong easterly winds will constantly refresh the below freezing air and cause a major ice storm where ice coatings could eventually exceed an inch, with major tree damage and widespread power outages.

Meanwhile, heavy foot-plus snows continue in the Cascades and Olympics and strong winds could continue blizzard conditions, especially during the morning hours.

(Yep, that about says it all...)

The wedding has been rescheduled for next Sunday, December 28th.
